Why does the Simraceway Game client re-install track and car mods when i join a server?

This could be due to one of the following situations:

  1. The track or car mod installed is a different version to the one we are using - in this case, please remove all traces of the problematic mods from your rFactor installation and allow the client to re-download and install the required mods again, see file/folder locations below:
  2. The track or car mod installed has modified files e.g. cam files which can trigger a re-download and install - in this case please do as above and be sure to use the stock mod without any customizations.
  3. The Simraceway Game Client has been re-installed - this shouldn't be a popular issue, howerver it is worth setting the client up to save downloads locally to avoid re-downloading them at a later date.
  4. Connectivity issues, this can result in partially downloaded/corrupted files which may not be picked up by the client resulting in the mod being partially installed which in turn would trigger the download each time the same server is joined - test your connection stability, if using wireless try achieve a stronger signal or use a wired connection, if you have other devices on the network ensure they are not interfering (XBox 360's have been known for this along with bad router configurations).
  5. User Account Control for Windows Vista and Windows 7 Users, if you have installed your games and the client to their default folders (Program Files / (x86)) then you may need to either disable this setting under User Accounts in the Control Panel, or re-install both the game/s and client to non protected system folders e.g. "C:\rFactor" and "C:\SRW" or install them to another partition/hard drive.

The file locations for the track and car mods are as follows:

  • Cars
  • rFactor\rFm
  • rFactor\GameData\Vehicles
  • rFactor\GameData\Sounds
  • Tracks
  • rFactor\GameData\Locations

Please note that some mods may use additional files such as those in the UIData or Plugins folders, in most cases you shouldn't need to remove these unless your issues persist.

If the issue persists after checking/trying the above suggestions, please submit support ticket here by clicking 'Submit A Request' so we can assist you further.

Notes: Corrupted downloads can be responsible for this
UAC being enabled/running in non-administrator mode can be responsible for this
Uninstalling and reinstalling the client can be responsible for this

Installing mods from other sites (potentially modified) may result in this (i understand we modify the rFm file/s which i think is the core reason for "external" mod installs resulting in re-downloads
